Beginnings

This is an introduction of sorts.

So I’ve started a blog. That’s what this is, you’ve probably figured that out by now.

I’ll cover a few things in this post:

  1. Why I’ve made this blog
  2. Why I’ve picked this title for this blog
  3. What you can expect to see moving forward

Well, there’s no need to waste time. I’ll start addressing those many, many points.

1. Why I’ve made this blog:

“Creativity is recursive.” – Abel

That’s not really a quote, but it’s the gist of several conversations I’ve had with my friend Abel. Ultimately, the exploration of art, philosophy, humor, music, and many, many other things is inherently recursive. An important part of many disciplines is not solely the creation of new works, but the interpretation of old works.

“There are no facts, only interpretations.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

Let’s use this Nietzsche quote as an example. One obvious interpretation is that the quote is to support my above conclusion regarding interpretations. I’d have to say that’s a valid interpretation, but let’s shine some more light onto this topic. I chose that quote for another reason as well. That quote, if you know me well and know some of the works I may choose to address on this blog, essentially gives away what the subject will be of one of my first few blog posts. So I guess this section of the blog should more accurately be titled as the following:

1. Why I’ve made this blog

&

3. What you can expect to see moving forward:

Moving forward, you can expect to see more of the above: a conglomeration of topics I’ve chosen to address, that may be separated into distinct parts, but in order to get a true picture of the topic on hand, one must look at the whole. We live in an age of skimming, clickbait, and SparkNotes. I intend to create posts that aren’t made to be skimmed, that don’t throw a BS title at your face, and that aren’t simply summarizes. I intend to contribute to the recursive discourse around a variety of topics.

I may address things that are 1 or 100 years old. The value isn’t in these works but is rather in the discourse surrounding these works. This also means that if you find something that interests you in one of my posts, talk about it with someone! Feel free to contact me, reach out to a friend, or talk with a mentor. That’s the ultimate goal of this site. In fact, this site largely exists thanks to inspiration from with Derek, another friend of mine, who started his own blog. While I intend to take a different approach to blogging and address different subjects, communicating with him about his blog ultimately encouraged me to start my own.

Additionally, I’ve written a lot that I haven’t chosen to share in the past but ultimately this defeats the purpose of taking the time to write something down. If my work inspires just one person to think more, to talk more, to share more, then ultimately it has succeeded. Working without sharing is a good way to hone your craft but ultimately it is sharing your work which gives it value. It is only worth as much as others value it, rather than the work you put into making it.

2. Why I’ve picked this title for this blog:

That’s one reason. Though perhaps I need to quote myself here:

[This song], if you know me well and know some of the works I may choose to address on this blog, essentially gives away what the subject will be of one of my first few blog posts. – Samuel Troper

So, let us revise this section heading:

2. Why I’ve picked this title for this blog

&

3. What you can expect to see moving forward:

The Nietzsche quote and the song are very large hints, but to give a couple more pieces of information about one of the first topics I’ll address, I’ll list the works that directly inspired the first thing I’ll be addressing:

Perhaps I’ll be addressing a few of those works as well. I intend to address some more obscure films, video games, and much more moving forward.

Ultimately though, I should title this section:

1. Why I’ve made this blog

&

2. Why I’ve picked this title for this blog

&

3. What you can expect to see moving forward:

Since, one reason I’ve made this blog is to address 3, and ultimately you can not truly separate 2 from 3.

Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the things to come. Feel free to reach out to me with questions, comments, or cool things I should consider addressing.
